Lemon Laws- Home

Cars are one of the major purchases your family makes (second only to your home).

But in addition to the costs associated with buying and maintaining one, our cars also affect our lives in a variety of other ways.

We rely on them to get to and from work. Being without it  can be very disruptive (and even an extreme financial hardship). We even put our lives at risk if our car isn't working properly.

Cars are so intertwined in our lives that many people are almost in love with their cars. But on the opposite extreme are those who are plagued with problem after problem from their "Lemon".

Because buying a lemon can have such devastating effects on our lives, in the 1970's and 80's the various state governments enacted "Lemon Laws" to protect consumers from the rash of poorly made cars that were hitting the markets at that time. Since then every state  plus the District of Columbia, has enacted lemon laws.

Lemon laws spell out what defines a lemon, how many tries the manufacturer has to "make it right"  and what the manufacturer has to do and when.

Lemon laws state when they have to be repurchased or replaced by the manufacturer. The lemon laws say who is eligible, and what a consumer may recover in a law suit against the manufacturer if your car can't be fixed after a certain number of repair attempts.

It is important for you to know your rights and responsibilities. So we have compiled a variety of articles to help you learn more about lemon laws and how to protect yourself.
